Workplace Safety Reminders

The recent news headlines regarding the deadly Bangladesh factory fire shows the extreme importance of workplace safety, specifically in industrial environments.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA.gov), 4,609 workers were killed on the job in 2011 which equates to almost 90 a week or nearly 13 deaths every day.

Here are just few a reminders when it comes to safety in the workplace:

  • When lifting a load, you should use your legs and keep your back straight.
  • If your supervisor asks you to operate machinery or equipment that you have not been trained to use, you should tell your supervisor that you have not been trained to use the equipment.
  • You are not required to complete any and all duties a supervisor asks you to perform, especially if it puts you at risk for injury.
  • Be sure to wear any protective gear that is required for the job.

These are just a few tips for keeping safe in the workplace, but always pay attention to your surroundings and adhere to any posted safety signs.
